Asbestos Removal in St. Anthony

Whether you are redoing a kitchen, replacing a furnace or clearing a lot in St. Anthony, we start with testing, remove what the lab confirms and file the state paperwork. Your other trades can then work on clean material.

Over 6 in every 10 homes in St. Anthony predate 1980. Close to 4 in 10 come from just two decades, the 1950s and the 1960s.

Asbestos removal services

Asbestos testing

A remodel needs samples of what will be disturbed, and a teardown needs the whole building inspected. Start with asbestos testing.

Popcorn and textured ceilings

Popcorn texture is on MDH’s list of materials to sample. If yours tests positive, popcorn ceiling removal covers the job.

Entry, kitchen and basement floors

Older entries, kitchens and basements can have tile or sheet flooring in layers. We sample each one, and our floor tile and mastic removal page explains how positive layers come up.

St. Anthony homes

Homes in St. Anthony are newer on the whole than those in Minneapolis. The median year built here is 1972, and under 1 in 10 homes were built before 1950.

St. Anthony mixes houses with large buildings. One-unit homes make up roughly half the total, and buildings of five or more units hold close to 45 percent.

Houses from the 1950s to the 1970s

If your house dates from then, sample the floor tile, mastic, ceiling texture and joint compound before work begins. Each room needs its own results, because a clean one tells you nothing about the room beside it.

Apartment and condo buildings

Buildings with five or more units fall outside MPCA’s exclusion for houses, so demolition or renovation there needs an MPCA notice ten working days before regulated asbestos is disturbed.

Permits in St. Anthony

The city’s permits page lists demolition as a permit type but gives no asbestos details. State rules still apply. MPCA wants asbestos out of a building at least two days before it is demolished, so ask the city what its demolition permit needs and plan the abatement to finish first.

Frequently asked questions

Can a homeowner do the work in St. Anthony?

Minnesota exempts one group, owners who live in their own single-family house, from the license and permit fee. MDH still strongly recommends a licensed asbestos contractor. Landlords and owners of duplexes or apartment buildings are not covered.

What paperwork should I keep?

MDH suggests asking for the contractor’s Minnesota license, the MDH permit, the waste manifests and the air-sampling lab report. Keep them with your house records.

Is asbestos found mid-project an emergency?

No. MDH does not count a discovery during a remodel as an emergency, so licensed removal still waits for the five-day notice.

Where does the waste go?

It is kept wet, packed in leak-tight, labeled containers and sent with a manifest to a landfill that accepts asbestos.
